This redundant edition of the Jargon File was created to demonstrate SK's lexigraphical database tools as well as to implement a handful of specific ideas I've had rattling around since first encountering the file a few years back and examining its self-consciously well structured contents. The Jargon File is an allegedly comprehensive compendium of hacker slang. The Jargon File was first compiled at Stanford by Raphael Finkel in 1975 and is currently maintained by programmer Eric S. Raymond. The extensive history and tradition of the Jargon File are set forth in detail Here.

The 1996 revision was published in hard form as The New Hacker's Dictionary and is considered cannonical. The file is currently at version 4.4.7 (2003) This database uses the source of the 2001 revision (v 4.4.1) and may or may not be updated to reflect subsequent revisions.
