Former Iraqi Information Minister In Bid For Fleischer Post Fri, May 16 2003 Posted: 10:38 EST (1538 GMT) AMAN, JORDAN -- Following the recent announcement by White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer that he will resign in July, former Iraqi Information Minister Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf announced he will seek the post Former Iraqi Information Minister Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf, currently in U.S. custody, has announced he will seek the Press Secretary's job expected to be abandoned by current spokesperson Ari Fleischer in July.

Although, reviled by some, Mr. al-Sahhaf is widely respected in Washington for his ability to "stay on message in a sh*t storm" as one anonymous administration source put it.

"He's shown he can say just about anything with a straight face", the source continued, "and that would be a definite plus in terms of defending the economic plan."

Asked if Mr. al-Hassaf's lack of English language skills would inhibit his performance, the consensus among both Democrats and Republicans polled seemed to be "Not with this administration".
