The file, durstcojones.mp3, was discovered by a UC Davis undergraduate searching the Kaza filesharing sharing service for a copy of a single by the Tex-Mex band, Los Lobos. Citing recent RIAA actions, the student requested anonymity but described the file as "tiny, only 2 or 3k." A download history included within the file suggested that the student was in fact the first and so far only taker.
Having long since publicly cataloged his every real world instance of physical contact with an adult female, the former entertainer used a June 2003 appearance on The Today Show to disclose uncomfortable details of his stalker-like fantasies involving Ms Jolie.
While likely foreclosing his opportunities to assault the actress at awards shows and other celebrity events, commentators suggest that Mr Durst's already remote chances with the beauty are not in fact substantially altered by the discovery of the file.
"At the height of his career -- which I somehow napped through -- his fame and $4995.00 would have bought Fred Durst an Angelina Jolie Real DollTM," observed celebrity columnist, Celia Dark.
Asked about Mr Durst's recent allegations of romantic canoodlings with songstress Britney Spears, Ms Dark affected to have never heard of the erstwhile child pornstar.
Mr Durst dismissed the discovery of the file with a wry note on his personal website declaring in bold, 24 point type: "Guess It's Back To Mall Trash For Me. "
An admittedly unscientific survey conducted by the Standard Times Tribune at the Springfield Galleria, however, suggests that Mr Durst's assessment of the situation is somewhat optimistic.
