(Daily Mi: 13.6) Brother appeared at the shelter first thing this a.m. Turned out he had left Pearisburg behind me and hadn't quite found the shelter before pitch, pitch dark. Actually camped in a field just one stand of trees away. He cursed when the sun came up and he saw the shelter right next to him.
Kind of pokey hiking today. Completely lost the trail at one point for about a quarter mile as it crossed and recrossed a stream it was following.
Brother bought a couple of bumpers of beer at a convenience store just down the road at the last crossing before the shelter. He was in a cheery mood, but I suspect he will regret carrying the empties until the next trash dump.
A generous spring feeding a big pool a couple of hundred yards downhill from the shelter. The major pool is probably fine but as an unxplained saphire tint that causes me to filter from the source a little higher up. Pull four quarts to avoid repeating the exercise later.
